KPN is advising customers with a Galaxy S II not to install the update to Android 4.0, because the device may crash or develop other problems. This is according to a notice posted on KPN’s forum.

The Dutch Consumers’ Association is also receiving complaints. The issue affects devices that received a KPN-specific version of the update. Samsung has since withdrawn the upgrade.

Updating a Galaxy S II to Android 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) may cause problems. The device may even crash completely. Customers who have already updated are advised to contact the KPN Business Center.

We advise you not to call, but to visit a branch instead. There is a very high chance that the phone will not be answered due to the volume of calls.

The problems appear to be affecting customers of KPN and Hi. Samsung withdrew the update immediately after the first reports came in; that already happened last week. According to the company, a ‘limited’ number of customers are experiencing these problems.

KPN deeply regrets that this has happened, and Samsung is working hard to solve the problem. Samsung expects the issue to be resolved sometime next week.

according to the provider.

The Dutch Consumers’ Association is calling on people affected by the update to leave a response. “We have already received complaints and are in contact with KPN and Samsung about a solution.” It is not yet clear what exactly is causing the problems. Customers of T-Mobile and Vodafone do not appear to be affected by the update.
