No division within Sony is sacred when it comes to restructuring the company. New CEO Kazuo Hirai said as much in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. Sony expected to post a loss for the fourth year in a row, leaving Hirai with the task of changing course.
Hirai said Sony would have to make tough decisions in some markets, though he did not want to name specific examples. The Japanese electronics giant's TV division is likely to face major changes, as it had not made a profit for eight years because of fierce price competition in the sector.
Hirai is expected to focus strongly on online connectivity. Under his leadership, PlayStation Network became an important part of the PlayStation experience. It was already known that this network would play a bigger role across more Sony devices, including televisions with built-in on-demand services running on Sony's network.
